St. Agnes African Sisters of Chipole
The sisters of St. Agnes care for more than 40 orphans at our orphanage. Most of these children are between the ages on one month to seven years. The orphans arrive at the orphanage in one of several ways. Some of the children were abandoned outright and were found on doorsteps or, in some cases, rubbish heaps. Others arrived because one or both of their parents died and there is no family member able to care for the child.
Around the age of 7 years, when a child is more self-sufficient and ready to attend primary school, the sisters will attempt to reunite the child with extended family members or other caregivers in the child's village. When that is not an option, the sisters will try to find a place for the orphan at our primary school in Chipole. We are able to support many orphans in this manner; however, with the increasing numbers of new orphans combined with those progressing through primary and secondary school, it is quite a challenge to find the funds to support each orphan's educational needs.
We are currently seeking assistance to help defray the costs of sending several of our orphans to primary and secondary school. The cost for one year is approximately $500 (US), which includes tuition, room and board, uniforms, books, and other ancillary needs.
