The community of Chipole includes a dispensary, orphanage, kindergarten, primary school, secondary school, and trade school. The Chipole Wireless Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Project involves placement of computers and creation of a wireless network in this rural village.
Our goal is to empower Chipole to take advantage of information and knowledge available on the Internet. By having access to the Internet, community leaders will be able to explore resources and opportunities that can benefit the entire community. The dispensary can have access to clinical literature and current practice protocols. Students will be able to research information, learn about the world outside of their own village, and become global citizens.
Having access to knowledge available on the Internet will help this community to develop programs that can positively influence their economic potential and standard of living. If the youth are able to learn the best methods of implementing and managing a fish pond (or candle making or pottery making), then they will have less time, energy, and inclination to explore drugs, alcohol, and other risky behaviors. And they will have a mechanism to combat the poverty that can be so pervasive in their lives.
Phease I of the Wireless ICT Project involves placing a computer at each key site and connecting them to the Internet using wireless networking.
To support our fundraising efforts, we have developed several documents that describe the project and provide detailed information on the technological solution. This information is available below for you to review. We welcome the opportunity to talk directly with individuals or groups interested in investing in the project.
